The Crossover Nobody Expected: Fortnitemares Comes to Halloween Horror Nights

In a crossover that has the horror and gaming communities buzzing, Fortnitemares is officially making its way as a Scarezone to Halloween Horror Nights—and the reveal has left fans stunned.

The announcement of Fortnitemares has sparked one of the most varied responses within both the haunted attraction and gaming communities. As video game adaptations such as The Last of Us and Fallout have become increasingly popular as haunted houses, the question then rises; why has the response been so divided? The haunt community has argued that the popular game Fortnite is "not scary" and can lack strong relations to horror which has created the debate if the intention of this scarezone is to deliver scares or embrace and accommodate a more playful atmosphere . The other half of the haunt community is being optimistic and are excited for new things to join the event; especially in Hollywood as they are infamous for repeating houses and scarezones. The gaming community has also demonstrated their excitement about Fortnite coming to the event as many have been asking for more video game adaptations at the event.

As a 15 year Halloween Horror Nights veteran, the announcement left me with a lot of opinions and at first I was a little skeptical. However, I began thinking of other properties that have come to the event that also got a massive divided reaction such as The Weeknd and WWE. When houses like The Weeknd: After Hours Nightmare and WWE: The Horrors of the Wyatt Sicks were announced, the reaction was just as divided as the announcement of Fortnitemares. The audience was skeptical and asking why these IPs were coming to the event of they have very little ties with the horror genre. To our surprise, the haunted houses were beautifully executed and it was apparent that extensive research was done. After Hours Nightmare and WWE: The Horrors of the Wyatt Sicks both ended being massive hits and top houses!

Thinking of those houses has reminded me go into the event with an open mind and that Fortnite came to the event for a reason. I am excited to experience the Fortnitemares scarezone all season long!
